SNS Outfitter & Guides is proud to congratulate our very own Randy George, who was honored as the Wyoming Outfitters & Guides Association (WYOGA) "Hunting Guide of the Year" for 2022.
Before the awards banquet, we sat down with Randy to learn about his journey into the guiding industry, what keeps him coming back, and one unforgettable hunt from his early years as a guide.
Randy grew up in the White Mountains of Arizona, surrounded by some of the biggest bull elk in the West. From an early age, he was drawn to the outdoors, spending every moment he could watching and learning about elk.
"One of my first and favorite memories was sneaking up on a herd of elk in the timber with my dad. I was quite young, but hooked from then on!"
In 1989, his family moved back to Wyoming, and Randy followed. By 1990, he landed his first job in the outfitting industry, working in the Dunoir Country. While he started as a camp jack, he soon had the opportunity to guide a few hunters, setting the stage for what would become his lifelong passion.
Randy’s first official guiding job came in 1996 with John Winters on Two Ocean Pass—an experience he still remembers vividly.
"That was big country, and to say I was nervous would be an understatement. I’ll never forget my first hunter—a blue-collar carpenter from Michigan who had saved for years to pay for his dream hunt. The pressure was on."
As Randy called in a bull elk, he felt just as excited as the hunter himself.
✔ The hunt was a success—and from that moment on, Randy was hooked on guiding.
From there, he spent several seasons guiding in Wyoming’s legendary Thorofare before transitioning into antelope hunts—an experience that led him to work with some of Wyoming’s top outfitters.
Over the years, Randy has guided alongside some of Wyoming’s most respected outfitters, including:
✔ Todd Jones
✔ Taylor Engum (East Fork Outfitters)
✔ Sy Gilliland (SNS Outfitter & Guides)
Working with SNS Outfitter & Guides, Randy found not only mentorship and opportunities but also lasting friendships.
"Sy has taught me a lot and opened many doors in my life. We have had some great times, and I’ve enjoyed the experiences we have shared."
Although Randy is a saddle maker by trade, guiding is his true passion.
✔ He spends his offseason crafting saddles, but as soon as September rolls around, he's eager to head into the field.
✔ His greatest joy comes from helping hunters achieve their dream hunts and making sure they leave Wyoming with incredible memories.
"I strive to make sure my clients go home fulfilled with their time in Wyoming. I am blessed to be part of such a great organization of sportsmen and women."
Randy extends his sincere gratitude to:
🦌 Taylor Engum for the nomination
🦌 His family for their support of his passion
🦌 WYOGA for the honor of being named Hunting Guide of the Year
"I am honored."
From all of us at SNS Outfitter & Guides—congratulations, Randy!
