As the temperatures start to cool down out West, with nighttime lows dipping into the 50s, we can sense that fall is just around the corner.
While summer isn't over yet, it's time to start preparing for the upcoming hunting season. Now is the perfect time to finish dialing in your rifle, gather your hunting equipment, finalize travel plans, and get any remaining questions answered. Here are some frequently asked questions that the SNS Outfitter office receives each year as the hunting season kicks off:
If you have a hunt booked with us this fall, you should have already received the equipment list tailored for your specific hunt. Our equipment list has been refined over 40-plus years and is continually updated. Please review the packing list, start assembling your gear, and check this off your 'to-do' list. Pro tip: Be sure to bring a durable, waterproof bag for your equipment.
It's incredibly important to make sure your rifle is dialed in and that you feel confident in your shooting skills.
Spend plenty of time at your local shooting range—this will pay off significantly during your hunt. We recommend bringing two boxes of ammunition. While you may not need both, finding the right ammo for your gun can be challenging, and we'd rather see you have too much than not enough.
Weather in Wyoming and Montana can be highly unpredictable.
During your hunt, you might experience temperate conditions or encounter severe weather. Modern technology makes it easy to keep an eye on the forecast out West. The weather apps on today's phones are quite accurate, so please use these rather than calling us to ask about the weather. We recommend you start monitoring the weather a few weeks before your hunt to observe any trends.
Our alcohol policy allows for alcoholic beverages in camp, but they must be purchased by clients before arrival. Of course, no alcohol is to be consumed during the day's hunt.
If we handled the licensing process for you, your hunting licenses will be waiting for you in camp upon arrival.
During orientation, SNS camp managers will distribute the licenses. While you're in the field, be sure to carry a photo ID along with your hunter safety card if you're required to have one. In Wyoming, if you were born after January 1st, 1966, you must have a hunter safety card. Montana requires a hunter safety card if you were born after January 1st, 1985.
Lastly, rest assured—we are fully prepared for your hunt. We take great pride in our pre-hunt organization, which we believe sets us apart from other hunting outfits.
If you have any further questions or need clarification, don't hesitate to call or email us as soon as possible. Thank you, and we look forward to welcoming all of you to hunting camp.
