A Hunter’s Legacy: 26 Years with SNS Outfitter & Guides

In 1947, Havilah Babcock authored My Health is Better in November. Longtime SNS client and friend Terry Truhler can certainly relate. “I always feel better when I am hunting in Wyoming,” he says.

Terry, a retired outdoorsman from central Washington, now spends his days tying flies and tending to a handful of steers. But every year, he returns to Wyoming for his annual hunt with SNS Outfitter & Guides—a tradition spanning an incredible 26 years.

A Legacy of Loyalty and Adventure

We’re honored to share Terry’s story as part of our Tailgate Tales Series. “At this point, I’m like the camp mascot,” he jokes.

Terry’s first hunt with SNS was in 1996, when a neighbor invited him to pursue mule deer and cow elk. An avid hunter, he eagerly accepted—and never looked back. Over the years, he has watched SNS’ Hunt #3 evolve. In the early days, camp was a rustic wall tent setup nestled among the cottonwoods. Now, he enjoys the comforts of Graham Camp, with its sweeping ranch views, hot showers, and home-cooked meals.

The SNS Difference

While the camp has changed, Terry says one thing has remained constant: SNS’ outstanding customer service.

“The guides give 120% every day. That’s what sets SNS apart from other outfitters,” he says.

Among the many friendships he’s built at SNS, one stands out—his bond with guide David Dandridge, who has been at his side for 22 of his 26 years. David even shared a collection of photos from their hunts together, capturing years of unforgettable moments in the saddle.

More Than a Guide—A True Friendship

When asked about Terry, David shared heartfelt words:

“Guiding hunters is rewarding, but when you’ve guided someone for 22 years, they become family. Terry Truhler isn’t just a client—he’s a dear friend. Some of my favorite memories are the times he welcomed my son and daughter on his hunts, introducing them to the tradition of hunting before they were old enough to go on their own. Each year, I get to spend a week with Terry, riding the mountains, glassing for elk, and making memories that will last a lifetime.”

Why Terry Keeps Coming Back

Like many SNS clients, Terry has found great success with our guided hunts. He has filled out all but one or two years—but it’s not about the meat or the antlers for him. It’s about the experience.

“It’s always enjoyable—drinking coffee, telling stories in the mess hall. The ranch is incredible. It’s one of the Last Best Places,” he says.

At SNS Outfitter & Guides, we treasure the friendships we’ve built with hunters like Terry. It’s not just about the hunt—it’s about the stories, the camaraderie, and the unforgettable moments in Wyoming’s backcountry.
