Wyoming Leads the Way for Record Book Pronghorn
It’s no secret that Wyoming is the best place to go for pure antelope hunting opportunity. But how does the state rank in terms of trophy quality for record book pronghorn?
In addition to Wyoming, there’s always a great deal of trophy antelope buzz from states like New Mexico and Arizona. But do you really need to head south to kill a record book antelope? Certainly not. In fact, you have a much higher chance of killing a record book pronghorn in Wyoming than anywhere else.
How many record book antelope does Wyoming produce? You might be surprised, but Wyoming has produced nearly double the number of records as second-place New Mexico. Actually, Wyoming has more antelope entries than New Mexico and Arizona combined. According to Boone and Crockett in 2014, Wyoming had 1,154 pronghorn entries, compared to 627 from New Mexico and 339 from Arizona.
Hands down, Wyoming is king when it comes to overall antelope hunting opportunity, as well as opportunity for killing a record book pronghorn. No other state comes even close. Here at SNS Outfitter and Guides, we are particularly proud of our record book antelope hunts.
We manage some of the best leases in Wyoming for our record book antelope hunts, and we carefully limit hunting on these properties. But the greatest factor for success on these hunts is the field-judging abilities of our seasoned antelope guides. Antelope are some of the most difficult big game animals to judge on the hoof. But our guides are experts at distinguishing animals that meet those record book minimums.
