SNS Outfitter has long been known as the west’s largest Pronghorn Antelope hunting operation, but in recent years it’s our elk hunting opportunities that have been trying to steal the show. Whether it is our outstanding reputation from 46 years of providing professional hunting experiences, an explosion in Wyoming’s elk populations or our recent acquisition of yet another elk hunting camp, SNS is well on our way to being known as one of the best Elk Outfitters the West has to offer.

Now with four different elk camps, SNS is excited to increase our inventory of elk hunting in Wyoming. Each option has their own unique characteristics and traits. We’d like to share some of each with you to help paint the picture of how expansive SNS’ elk hunting opportunities truly are! 

The first of which is our new wilderness elk camp. This operation was previously owned by Taylor and Hillary Engum who did an outstanding job of taking care of their clients. This past fall we got our first real opportunity to experience all that this hunt has to offer. The location for this incredible elk hunt is in elk area 67, one of Wyoming’s premiere general elk areas. It is a pack in camp with a relatively easy two hour ride in, but remote enough to get our hunters into the true wilderness. Nestled in the heart of the Washakie Wilderness, this traditional wall tent camp features many creature comforts.

The elk hunting is nothing short of fantastic and boasts some of the best archery elk hunting our guides have ever experienced! After archery season, the rifle hunts continued with plenty of successful hunters and some quality animals taken. It was awesome to see the pack outs for this camp, full of elk quarters and antlers heading back to the trail head.

David Cardinal will be our lead guide & camp manager for this wilderness camp. He brings a whole lot of notoriety and 24 Years of guiding and camp manager experience along with him. You are in great hands with David at the helm. This hunt is featured on our website under Hunt #8. Openings are of course limited so its best to look at hunt dates for the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Our second elk hunt happens to be conducted from one of our most popular mule deer and antelope camps. In recent years this area has seen a healthy increase in the elk population resulting in more hunting opportunity for our clients. We started taking cow elk hunts on this property in 2022. They were very popular and had a lot of success. In addition to our cow elk hunts, we will now offer a management bull elk hunt. To define a management bull; the bull harvested must have 6 or less points on either antler to be a legal bull. The management bull elk tag is easy to draw, but if you have Wyoming elk preference points they will be used when you apply.

This elk camp’s location is in northeastern Wyoming, in elk area 123. It is located at a lower elevation with more gentle terrain. This hunt requires plenty of hiking but primarily uses trucks and UTV’s to access the hunting area. If you have max or close to maximum elk points give us a call about Hunt #2. . We have taken some real bruisers here and its only open for Trophy bulls every other year and its open in 2023.

This camp is managed by Troy Gilmore who is also one of SNS lead guides. He has been guiding for SNS since 2007 and has 6 Years of experience managing this camp. Troy, along with our very experienced crew, will take good care of you during your hunt. 

Our third Elk Hunt option is our ever popular Box Y lodge hunt in the famous Greys River area of western Wyoming. If you want to return to a nice comfortable lodge and cozy cabin after a long day of pursuing elk, this is your hunt. Our crew of experienced guides have done a great job in recent years of finding some really good bulls for our clients. We use horses and leave for the hunting area well before daylight each morning and return after dark. Expect long days in the saddle soaking up some the most beautiful country Wyoming has to offer. The Greys River is an area of Wyoming that must be experienced to really appreciate how rugged and steep this part of Wyoming truly is.

Ralph Hlebak, our camp manager, knows this part of Wyoming like the back of his hand. Ralph has been has been guiding hunts in this area since 1979, 17 years of which have been for SNS. He is a huge asset to our operation and mentor to our guides. This hunt is featured on our website under Hunt #7. Last up in our Elk Camp options, is SNS longest running hunting camp. We have been operating on this huge working cattle ranch for over 35 years. If you want the chance to hunt elk, whether it be cow elk or quality, bugling bulls, this is the hunt for you! This hunting opportunity is located along the southern end of Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains in limited quota elk area 48. You will be hard pressed to find a location in Wyoming that can match the large elk herds found here. Our camp is situated right in the heart of the best elk habitat on the ranch. We are able to drive into camp and leave to hunt each morning on horseback. This is big country and we cover many miles a day by horseback. Once your elk is harvested, it is carefully field dressed by your guide. Our professional hunting guides are some of the best in the business. All of these elk hunts are rifle hunts. Our success rates most years runs over 90% kill. The terrain is a lower elevation and our camp sits at 7,000 feet and the highest point on the ranch is only 8,200 feet. 

One of our most experienced employees is this camp’s manager, Dave McKnight. He has been working for SNS in many capacities since 1982 and is the perfect choice to head up operations.
