Ladies Hunting Gear Review
Are you a female hunter who enjoys hunting and loves her camo? Gets psyched about her outdoor gear and its functionality? Yet at the same time, has always struggled to find the perfect, long lasting hunting gear, made specifically for women? If so, you’re not alone. I’m here to tell you about some of our favorite items.
First and foremost, I have searched high and low for the best of the best. I have been in and out of numerous stores trying on gear, buying gear, and wearing it out on my hunts. I’ve also worn numerous brands, from ladies-specific to a “generic” fit, to men’s gear. To be honest, I wore men’s gear for quite some time because the quality was there — the fit, however, wasn’t.
Over time, I have (mostly) loved all of the gear I’ve tried. But, many of the women’s-specific brands have come and gone or haven’t truly found their thriving point. That said, I am here to tell you that I have found a brand that I love and will use for many years to come on my hunts. Best of all, the company is a celebrated fit for both men and women.
With their headquarters in Ketchum, Idaho, First Lite is a true backcountry brand. Not only has First Lite made leaps and bounds with their gear, but their products are highly versatile. Founded in 2007, First Lite has been on a mission to provide the best possible apparel for hunters who demands nothing less. They design simple products that work regardless of the terrain or the specific type of hunt. Not only did they start by having a couple pieces of women’s gear, but they allow their female ambassadors to test the gear to its fullest. They really truly care about women’s thoughts and feedback about the gear.
Personally, I have found a few pieces that I can’t live without. The First Lite base layers are second-to-none. With their wool technology, you can go days without washing them. I also have a couple of their outer layers — the Aurora Puffy and their Alturas Women’s Guide pant. Not only do I wear their base layers while I am hunting, but I wear them skiing and during evenings out in the mountains in the winter. Additionally, I always pack them while backpacking in the backcountry.
Their base layers are merino wool, which I know some people cannot wear against bare skin. However, they are worth trying on. If you are un able to wear the base layers, still take a look at their outer layers, pants, and accessories.
