Early September along the Greys River; while middays still carry a touch of summer, the mountains are beginning to slip into fall. Mornings have a crisp bite in the air and the leaves are just beginning to show signs of change. If you’ve ever spent a clear September day in the Rockies, you know exactly what we mean.

There’s nothing quite like September at the Box Y lodge. The fall black bear hunts are one of the highlights of the year. With individual cabins that include a private bath and a porch to enjoy the view, this is the perfect hunt to experience with a friend or even bring a spouse. The fall black bear hunts provide a great balance between laid-back atmosphere and relaxation, and an exciting hunting experience for color phase black bears.

The Greys River area is home to the finest black bear hunting in Wyoming, and the area produces mostly color phase bears. We hunt different sites in the fall than we do in the spring, and our guides are busy keeping an eye on good potential bears. Our success rate runs about 90% and hunting at elevations between 7,000 and 8,000 feet means we don’t deal with slipped hides or biting flies on our spring or fall hunts, common issues in other popular bear hunting locations.

But more than just great hunting and an extremely high success rate, we’re most proud of our 100% satisfaction rate. On this six-day hunt, hunters can expect to wake up to a nice breakfast and spend the morning relaxing, fly fishing or taking a scenic drive. We have our main meal of the day in mid-afternoon and then head out for the late afternoon/evening hunt. You and your guide will stay out until dark or until that trophy bear appears.
